The Kurdistan Center for International Law (KCIL) carried out a field visit to the office of the Commission for Investigation and Gathering Evidence (CIGE) for ISIS crimes in Duhok. The visit marked an important step toward strengthening cooperation between the two institutions in the pursuit of justice and accountability for crimes committed by ISIS.
During the meeting, KCIL and CIGE reached an understanding to develop a joint program aimed at building the capacity of CIGE staff in key areas, including open-source investigation and field investigation of international crimes. The joint initiative will equip investigators with advanced skills to enhance the quality and effectiveness of their work.
KCIL further committed to supporting CIGE in establishing stronger connections and international cooperation with specialized war crimes units in European Union member states. This support will help facilitate the exchange of expertise and strengthen the role of CIGE within the Kurdistan Region of Iraq’s judicial system in backing third-party investigations and legal proceedings against ISIS perpetrators.
This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to justice, accountability, and the rule of law, ensuring that efforts to investigate and prosecute ISIS crimes are conducted to the highest international standards.
