The Kurdistan Centre for International Law (KCIL) participated in a
meeting of the Coalition for Just Reparations (C4JR), which took place in Erbil
province. This event brought together a number of governmental institutions, partner
and supporting organizations, including the Centre for Investigation and Gathering
Evidence (CIGE), the National Centre Hammurabi Organization, Yazda, the Speicher
Victims Organization, along with several other entities dedicated to justice
and the protection of victims’ rights.
The
meeting’s agenda primarily focused on legislation concerning international
crimes law within both the Kurdistan Region and the Federal Republic of Iraq,
emphasizing the necessity for alignment with recognized international legal
standards.
Additionally,
NCIJC presented its strategy, outlining its specialized sections, procedures
for engaging with witnesses and victims, and procedures for evidence
collection, all in accordance with the directives of the Supreme Judicial
Council.
KCIL presented
the initiations and draft law for criminalizing core crimes and the its status in
the legislative process.
